My mum is 86 years of age. Recently she was hospitalised for 8 days in ktph under class C. She is insured under NTUC incomeshield plan B. Her total bill after subsidy is $4669.57 for the 8 days. Integrated shield plan ISP is $2177.61 and medisave is $2491.96. The breakdown for the ISP consists of medishield life Is $1727.61, Incomeshield is $450. My mum's annual premium is $1001.02 for the Medishield life and $900 for incomeshield plan B. My queries are:
1) How do they derive $450 from Incomeshield?
2) Does the deduction of the bill of the ISP first comes from medishield life then incomeshield?
3) Do you think medishield life plan is suffice? Should I cancel the Incomeshield plan B?
Thanks for any advise.

Hey, hope your mum is okay 🙏
1. Why IncomeShield only pay $450?
Because MediShield Life already paid first ($1.7k). After that, only a small remaining amount is claimable under IncomeShield (after deductible etc.), so it comes up to $450. This is normal for C class wards.
2) Which pays first?
Yes, correct order: MediShield Life ➡️ IncomeShield ➡️ MediSave/cash
3) Is MediShield Life enough? Cancel IncomeShield?
MediShield Life alone: enough for basic (C/B2 ward), cheaper but lower coverage
IncomeShield Plan B: extra protection for bigger bills, but premiums are high at her age
Simple way to think:
If cancel, very hard to buy back later at age 86.
If her stays are usually C ward and bills not huge, MSHL is generally enough. But it really depends how much risk you’re okay to take.
